Here we go again with salmonella causing people to become ill. This time it’s tomatoes. Seems like we have either a salmonella or an E-coli scare about once every two months. Beef, spinach, bagged lettuce, chicken, peanut butter, etc, etc. Could it be that the FDA is not doing its’ job??????
Before we blame the FDA, let’s take a look at a couple of things. Some years ago, there were 50,000 inspectors to check the food we eat in this country. You rarely heard of problems. In the last few years the budget of the FDA has been cut drastically!! Today, 10,000 inspectors try very hard to do the same job. And don’t forget, to meet the demand for food at lower prices, we import a great deal of it, which only adds to the problem.
The current administration feels that government should not interfere in the lives of its citizens. This administration feels that includes the food that we eat – the food that makes us sick. I wonder how John McCain feels about this? Food for thought.
